The Village

Husthwaite is an ancient settlement, one of the oldest buildings being St. Nicholas' Parish Church dating from the twelfth century, which, with the Village Green, forms the centre of the village.

The village is a Designated Conservation Area and is adjacent to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Our village is a thriving local community with a wide range of activies and you can gain a fuller picture by visiting the village website

Husthwaite's Primetime and Orchard Village Clubs

The School has links with two Village clubs that enable children to interact with the older generation in our community.

Primetime is an initiative organised by Hambleton District Council that uses sport to reduce isolation in rural areas.  The sessions are for any age or ability but particularly those looking for social interaction. Sports on offer are Boccia,a game similar to bowls, and New Age Kurling, which is like the Kurling you see played on ice but using stones with ball-bearings so it can be played in a village hall.

The Orchard Village Club meets once a month and is a social gathering serving a hot meal and giving its members an opportunity to meet up and chat with each other.  The school is delighted to have had the opportunity provide meals for the Club.

Children visit the Village Primetime each term and enjoy the social interaction with the older generation. The Primetime Games allow adults and children to compete on an equal footing.

"Inter-generational games are wonderfully invigorating for the older players" says Robin Walton, volunteer co-ordinator of Primetime and the Orchard Village Club.  "We always welcome new players of all ages and abilities who come and enjoy Boccia and New Age Kurling with us. Both these Husthwaite Village Hall clubs are specifically designed to help alleviate rural isolation."

We would like to encourage new members to join in the social activities we offer.
Some of the school children have grandparents living locally. We hope they will be encouraged to come and see for themselves, what fun can be had here in Husthwaite.
