Husthwaite CE Primary School complete the Galtres Fun Run

The wet weather could not stop the enthusiasm of pupils (and parents!) from Husthwaite CE Primary School from competing in the 2km Galtres Fun Run.  After weeks of training at their school’s running club, the pupils were fully prepared and full of excitement for their first ‘competitive’ fun run.  And fun they did have - lots of enthusiastic energy, smiles and plenty of waving at the spectators as the children were cheered on by their parents, friends and relatives.   The children arrived in school the following week to proudly show off their medals for competing.   Well done to everyone for not letting the weather dampen spirits - we hope to return in 2019.

Pupils were treated to taster Yoga session with Helen and Verity.  Yoga is not only a good for balance, posture and core strength but is also beneficial for children’s mental wellbeing.  A wonderful, calming opportunity for children to experience an alternative form of exercise.

Class 2 Multiskills sports team had fun taking part in a range of Sports with other local schools on Wednesday afternoon in the sports hall at Easingwold Secondary School. Thanks go to Miss Goodchild for accompanying the children.

On Wednesday, the children went to take part in the cross country competition at Easingwold School.  The children were all fantastic and were brilliant ambassadors for our school.  A special mention to Willow, who finished in 1st place in the Y5 Girls Race - good luck in the next round!

On Wednesday 11th, we played tag rugby through torrid conditions.  This didn't dampen our spirits and we scored tries aplenty.   Well done to all who took part - I hope you have now warmed up!

In football on Thursday evening (12th), the children really showed our First Value Award: GRIT (growth, resilience, initiative and tenacity). The children stuck together as a team, real leadership was shown by many and they played until the final whistle.  Real improvement was shown by all across all 3 matches.  Special mention to Luke with some fantastic goalkeeping - even saving a penalty.

We had a perfect evening for football on Thursday 28th; the sun was out and the ground was soft.  The children all represented the school well.  They showed excellent sportsmanship and great character.  Unfortunately the results didn't go with us this time but everyone had a fantastic time and put in 100%.  In the words of Ian Dowie, we shall show great ‘bouncebackability’ when we compete next week!

Sports Week!

Well, in spite of the weather, the children have had a fantastic week! We hope they have been telling you about all the amazing activities. There’s been so much going on we don’t know where to start.....School Games Day, Sports Day, Circus Skills, basketball, boccia, dodgeball, football, tennis, triathlon and so much more..... so have a look at the great photos on the school Gallery here.

Olympic Event

12 of Husthwaite’s year 6 pupils did the school proud on Wednesday, when they attended an Olympic event at Easingwold Secondary School.  They were split into teams (10 in total) with children from other local schools and participated in 10 different events ranging from balances and racing,  to hockey and netball skills, finishing with an afternoon of rounders.  Our children were a credit to the school, displaying true sportsmanship and enjoyment while striving to achieve the best they could (making new friends in the process!).  A very enjoyable and worthwhile day.  Well done Y6!

A huge well done to the children who took part in the rounders tournament, they were a pleasure to spend the evening with and kept their spirits up even when we lost.

Well done to the 10 children who competed in the cricket tournament on Wednesday. We came 6th but we definitely won the respect and goodwill trophy! The children were all a pleasure to take out for the afternoon and kept well-motivated even in the boiling heat. They definitely applied their growth mindsets and when they lost the scores were close.

Well done to the Y5/6 hockey squads. Two teams of 5 went to the Galtres Centre to play two teams from Alne on Wednesday evening. The children had a great time and Miss Robson from Easingwold secondary who organised the event was very impressed with the improvement of the players from both schools throughout the evening. The children didn't want it to stop and their enthusiasm was fabulous, although when Husthwaite A played Husthwaite B it was like a scene from St Trinians!!

Well done to the 7 children who qualified for the Cross Country Level 2 event.

Yr 5/6 finished 3rd at the Sportshall athletics competition-a great performance!
