Safeguarding

Safeguarding Children is a high priority for all who work at Husthwaite CE Community Primary School. This page will give you access to all the information regarding Safeguarding in school.

Statement

All stakeholders at Husthwaite are firmly committed to safeguarding our children and families. Staff engage in regular safeguarding training in order to ensure our children and families are well supported and protected from harm.

The Executive Headteacher, Miss Fiona Bennett, is the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Miss Gemma Goodchild and Mrs Sarah Dixon are the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Mrs Liz Hebdon is the school’s safeguarding governor.

We work closely with families and other agencies to ensure the safeguarding of children. Underpinning our work is a collection of safeguarding policies and procedures. These policies form part of our statutory duties to safeguard all children. They have been updated to reflect the latest national guidance for safeguarding, as detailed in “Keeping Children Safe in Education” (2023).

Child Protection

Any Child Protection concerns should be directed to Miss Bennett who is the Designated Person for Child Protection in school. Miss Bennett may then pass this concern onto the Social Care Team who will decide on the appropriate action to take. Parents will be informed of this process unless it is felt that this information may put a child in danger. If for any reason Miss Bennett is not available please take concerns to Miss Goodchild or Mrs Dixon who will follow the appropriate procedures

If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or children in our school, please do not hesitate to inform us.

CEOP is here to keep children safe from sexual abuse and grooming online.

You can make a report directly to the CEOP Safety Centre by clicking on the Click CEOP button if something has happened online which has made you feel unsafe, scared or worried. This might be from someone you know in real life, or someone you have only ever met online. CEOP take all reports seriously and we will do everything we can to keep you safe.
As well as making a report to the CEOP Safety Centre, the CEOP Education website has information and advice to help you if something has happened to you online.

Are you being bullied?
CEOP are unable to respond to reports about bullying but if you’re being bullied and would like to talk to someone in confidence right now you can speak to Childline on 0800 1111 or talk to them online – no worry is too big or too small.

The start of the school day

Children should not arrive at school before 8.40am. A Teacher will be on duty at the front of school. The gate opens at 8:40am and children can come straight into the classroom. Registers are taken at 8:50am

At the end of the school day

School finishes at 3.20pm.  All children assemble on the main school playground with their class teacher and await collection by parents.  Written permission must be given to the class teacher if children can leave the school premises by themselves.  Children travelling home by school bus are supervised by a member of staff onto the bus who checks seating and seat belts.

When a child is absent from school.

When your child is ill we ask that you ring the office as soon as possible on the first day of absence to inform us. There will be someone to take your call from about 8am and messages can be left on the answerphone. If we are not informed the School staff will ring to ensure they know the reason for your child’s absence.

Children that travel on the School Bus

This bus is provided by North Yorkshire School Transport and arrangements must be made with them if you wish to travel.

First Aid

We have a number of Qualified First Aiders in school. If a child requires any treatment then an account will be made of the accident in our accident book. If a child has had a bump to the head then a slip will be put in the child’s bag informing parents or carers and the child will get as head bump sticker. If it is felt that the parent/carer should be informed following a more major incident then a phone call will be made home. Following an incident in school, if there is treatment involving a doctor or the hospital, we ask that the School Office is informed.

Medicines in school

School can only give medicines, such as antibiotics, that are prescribed to be taken four times a day. Forms are available from the school office. Children must not keep medicines in their school bag unless they are their personal inhalers. Painkillers cannot be given to children by our staff. The only exception to this is if a child returns to school following an operation and it is recommended by the hospital or GP. Forms are available from the school office or by clicking here.

Health Care Plans

It is important that are staff are clear what to do when emergencies arise with children with medical needs. Therefore in these cases we work closely with parents and health care professionals to put together a health care plan. If you feel that your child requires one of these don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Internet Safety

Every class is taught about internet safety as part of the curriculum. Each child will sign an agreement on safe use of the internet.
